“Encourage tamariki to be the light, when there is none”
Bring joy and excitement into the life of a child, teach and be taught, the teacher teaches the student, the student becomes the teacher, show the tamaiti a path, encourage them to dream, work alongside the tamaiti to build their resilience and skill set in school and at home, plant kakanoa for taping into when the time is right for them they will reap what is sown, engage and move intentionally with their wairua and mauri, let the child be the guide, let our efforts be their safe space to adventure and learn.
Mana Ake Kaupapa
Toi Oho operate under the umbrella of Whatu Ora New Zealand Ministry of Health, Mana Ake is the kaupapa in which Toi Oho deliver mental health and wellbeing programmes, designed to uplift the wairua and mauri of tamariki between the ages of 5 - 12 years of age in school environments. Working alongside Tumuaki and Kaiakao to ensure that the work that Toi Oho delivery is in alignment with the curriculum, needs of the school and most importantly the needs of the tamaiti.
Toi Oho engage with tamariki in a Te Ao Maori lens and deliver exciting creative and challenging activities, teaching emotional resilience strategies, strength based skills promoting joy, fun and healthy lifestyle choices.
We focus on exercise as a fun way to build their physical and mental resilience, challenging Kemu Maori which tap into their culture, Te Reo Maori and the concepts of Tikanga at a basic level to introduce a bilingual cultural approach to learning, simple commands and action, leading to a better understanding of the multi cultural landscape they live in.
Toi Oho also focus on creating safe spaces to korero and encourage self confidence through creative activities to engage their inner spark and bring to life their passions and dreams as young people who will eventually be the leaders of tomorrow.
We are proud of the steps tamariki take when they are allowed to be themselves in a safe space that helps them realise their own potential, learn strategies to deal with their Big Emotions, journal their thoughts, express their not so good moments and work together to become stronger.
